Gayathri, born on 14th July 1978, started her singing career in the movie 'Arayannangalude Veedu' with the song "Deena Dayalo Raama ... " under Raveendran Master's music direction . Though she is renowned as a play back singer , she is also adept in Hindustani & Bhajans. She started learning Karnatic Music under Sri. Mangat Natesan and then Sri Vamanan Naboothiri . Later she was trained by "Dr. Alka Deo Marulkar" in Pune and later under "Pandit Vinayaka Torvi" in Bangalore for Hindustani .
She received the Kerala Govt Award for the best singer for "Enthe nee kanna ..." from the movie 'Saneham Sumithra ' in 2003. Though most of her songs are outstanding among the Malayalam film songs, a few illustrious ones are - " Chanchaadiyaadi" from the movie 'Makalkku', "Thumbikkinnaaram" from 'Naran', "Thaamara noolinaal " from 'Mullavalliyum Thenmaavum' and "Kinavile " from the movie 'Pranchiyettan & the Saint"
