Akshara Mohan

Akshara Mohan Kalarikkal, 13 years, is a IX standard student in the Indian School, Al Wadi Al Kabir, Sultanate of Oman.

Akshara is a dedicated student, but she has excelled in music and dance.  Music and Dance is her passion, she says.  Akshara has secured many awards in various music competitions held in Oman, including the coveted award – Muscat Idol in 2007.  She has been the winner selected from 300+ children.  She has also the Kalathilakam in 2009 competitions held by the Malayalam wing under the Indian Social club in Oman.  She has also been the top scorer and Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior categories in many competitions held by Malayalam Wing and Kerala wing under the Indian Social Club in Oman for very many years.  She has also the winner for many years in the Classical and Vocal music competitions held by the Indian Social club under the patronate of Khimji which is conducted in an All India Level in Oman.  She has also received award from the great singer Hariharan.

She has also has in her profile many winning awards from her school and other local competitions.  Akshara learns carnatic classical music and violin as an instrument.  She is also practicing various dance forms including Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi,  folk dance etc.  She is also a good singer in light vocals – both carnatic and Hindustani. Akshara is now stationed in Sultanate of Oman, and currently has been to USA WDC in a programme – People to People.  Akshara’s father is Mohan Kalarikkal and mother Sheeba Mohan.  They also inculcate art and music to her on a daily basis. She also practices drawing and painting, and she is also a good writer.

Akshara leanrs Carnatic classical music from her guru, Smt. Jyoti Balaji and Classical dance from Shri Sethunath.
